Bainbridge Island

This is the first oil painting I completed when I moved from Boston to Bainbridge Island. To me it is the colors of the island. As much as I love sunshine (and this area is incredibly beautiful on a sunny day), I love the constantly changing and moody atmosphere of the Pacific Northwest waterways with the surrounding trees and mountains. It is no wonder the Salish people who inhabited this island area for centuries, (and still do), had such reverence for nature and its bounty and beauty. This oil painting is done on canvas on a large scale to express the expanse of water and sky, both heavy with mist.   Again, with no specific delineation of horizon and with the ambiguous color palette, people ask if it is morning, late afternoon, raining, etc. The answer is yes, it is all those things - whatever you see is your message. I loved creating this work and welcomed the opportunity to immerse myself in the feel of this special place.  The original oil is not for sale, but you can enjoy this painting as a limited edition giclee print complete with a Certificate of Authenticity.
