Love in the Afternoon - 1947

This painting was inspired by a vintage photo of a couple in a boat built by my father in the family boat shop.  He had just returned from WWII (Navy, of course) and he and his brother went back to work in their grandfather's boat building business.  The boat was supposed to be the center of attention, but viewers seemed to be drawn to the romantic feeling and I guess they aren't wrong.   The couple in the painting married, are our parents, and had a beautiful and long marriage.  I chose sepia tones in the painting to illustrate the time frame ('40's) of the setting and the feeling depicting the greatest generation.
